Chordoo generates chord progressions in your browser. Pick a genre family and one of 56 sub-genres, a key and major or minor, and you get a 4, 8 or 16 chord progression you can play back, tweak and export as a MIDI or WAV file. It is free and there is nothing to sign up for.
The generator does not pick random chords from the whole keyboard. Each sub-genre has its own progression patterns, scale and chord colors: Deep House vamps on Dorian minor 9ths, Drill uses harmonic minor, Gospel walks up with slash chords and passing diminished chords, and Big Room stays on plain triads. Chords also last as long as they do in the style, from two per bar in a jazz turnaround to four bars in dub techno.
Not sure where to begin? Open one of these and regenerate around it. Each link loads the chords into the generator above.
| Progression | Numerals | Chords | Sound | Open |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pop axis | I – V – vi – IV | C – G – Am – FC major | Bright and familiar. The loop behind a huge share of pop choruses. | Play & export |
| Minor loop | i – VI – III – VII | Am – F – C – GA minor | The same chords as the pop axis, started on the minor. Moody, works for rap and trap. | Play & export |
| Jazz cadence | ii7 – V7 – Imaj7 – vi7 | Dm7 – G7 – Cmaj7 – Am7C major | Smooth tension and release. A good base for lo-fi and deep house. | Play & export |
| Neo soul minor | i9 – iv9 – VImaj7 – v7 | Dm9 – Gm9 – Bbmaj7 – Am7D minor | Warm and a little melancholic. Voice it open and play it slow. | Play & export |
Each genre page explains what makes its progressions work and lists examples you can open in the generator.

Choose a genre, a key (or leave it on Random) and major or minor. Chordoo builds a progression from patterns used in that genre. Press the spacebar or the refresh button for a new one, and lock any chord you want to keep before you regenerate.
Click the MIDI export button. The file downloads straight away and you can drag it onto any instrument track. FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Bitwig and GarageBand all read it. If you just want audio, use WAV export instead.
Yes. There is no paid plan, no account and no export limit. Progressions you save are stored in your own browser.
56 sub-genres in 14 families: House, Techno, Trance, Hard Dance, Drum & Bass, Bass Music, EDM, Hip-Hop, R&B / Soul / Funk, Pop, Afro & Latin, Jazz, Rock & Country and Cinematic. Pick a family, then a sub-genre such as Deep House, Melodic Techno, Euphoric or Raw Hardstyle, Liquid DnB, Trap, Drill, Neo-Soul or Amapiano. Every sub-genre works in all 12 keys with 4, 8 or 16 chords. Styles that only exist in minor (or major) lock the mode toggle and tell you why.
Both have their own sub-genre under Hip-Hop. Lo-fi Hip-Hop gives you the seventh and ninth chords and ii-V-I turnarounds lo-fi relies on. Trap and Drill write dark two-chord loops in natural minor, harmonic minor or Phrygian, with each chord held for two bars.
Yes. The voicing panel lets you switch between root position and first or second inversion, choose closed or open voicings and move the octave. The MIDI and WAV exports follow those settings.
Use the share button to copy a link. Anyone who opens it gets the same chords, key and genre loaded in the generator, ready to play or export.
